Local professional cyclist Keegan Swirlbul and woman’s Leadville 100 winner Larissa Connors took top honors in the 2017 WEDU Aspen Fifty mountain bike race held September 17th in Aspen, Colorado.
Swirbul, who races for the Jelly Belly professional road racing team, completed Saturday’s fifty mile race in 3:37:20. Two weeks prior to the Aspen Fifty race, the 22-year-old placed 26th in general classification at the Tour of Alberta stage race. Local cyclist Dean Hill was second at 3:45:22 and Samuel Dolzani was third at 3:49:49.
Connors, who placed 16th in the open category, topped the women’s field at 4:10:27. Local Rachel Beck was second place at 4:41:31 (28th overall) and Courtney Boyd was third at 4:44:07 (30th overall).
RFMBA would like to thank all the racers, volunteers and promoters of the WEDU Aspen Fifty. A special thank you to Basalt Bike & Ski and the generous supporters who committed to matching BB&S’s challenge of $1,000 at the after party! A portion of every racer’s registration will go towards growing and improving the Roaring Fork Valley’s trails.
